100 Year Old Dresser Makeover
A 100 Year Old Aztec Inspired Dresser Makeover
Our master bedroom hasn’t gotten a ton of love since we moved into our house in 2017. Our main focus was on the rest of the house, mostly the downstairs. Basically, we focused our efforts on any room that guests would see, and our master bedroom didn’t make the cut, obviously.
Normally, I dream up projects do on a pretty regular basis and depending on the season, they vary with where in the house or outside the house they’ll be, but quarantine has me dreaming up the coziest spaces and it’s time for a little bedroom glow up.
It’s a delicate balance, navigating around trying to keep a masculine feel for my husband’s sake but also throwing some femininity in there for my sake…so, there’s lots more to come when it comes on our bedroom makeover, but it had to start somewhere. So, I chose my husband’s 100 year old dresser (not a family heirloom) to begin.
When we merged lives, I came with my take-it-to-the-grave-with-me dresser/nightstand/bed frame set that I purchased from West Elm, pictured below. It’s a middle-of-the-road dark wood if you ask me. Not too light, but not crazy dark. Christopher’s dresser blew it away with it’s dark wood and ultimately, made our bedroom feel smaller because of it. So, when I proposed my idea of an aztec inspired dresser makeover, he was super cool about it and agreed he’d like something lighter and liked my idea of the aztec print on it.

Christopher’s 100 year old dresser was purchased 20ish years ago, so I don’t have a link for that one ;)

I can’t tell you how much bigger our room feels now with the lighter color in there. Christopher loves it and I'm so excited for the options this opens up for a new duvet cover, new lighting, some artwork and photos on the walls, etc. Stay tuned for more updates, coming soon!
Update: Those knobs weren’t practical for the weight of the drawer, so we traded them out for something a little more practical. These pretty hexagon gold pulls are linked above.
